I saw this Gyrfalcon specimen collecting dust in the corner at the University of Dundee’s D’Arcy Zoology Museum. I was struck by how beautiful the bird is and decided I would like to create a 3d photogrammetry model of it. Please enjoy interacting with the final 3d model below. If you are viewing on mobile, please visit the model on the University’s museum Sketchfab here. Created using Google pixel 6 camera, Agisoft Metashape, Zbrush and Sketchfab.

The Gyrfalcon thrives in some of the harshest climates on earth. They on Arctic coasts, and the islands of northern North America, Europe, and Asia. They are also known to spend considerable periods during the winter on sea ice far from land.
Their plumage varies based on location, ranging from brown to white. This specimen would have lived in a more snowy location.
